1885

The Indian National Congress (INC) was founded by Allan Octavian Hume, Womesh Chunder Bonnerjee, and other visionary leaders as the first modern nationalist movement in Asia and Africa.

Early 1900s

Became the principal leader of the Indian independence movement, adopting Purna Swaraj (complete self-rule) as its goal in 1929.

1947

After independence, the INC emerged as the dominant political force, shaping India's governance and institutions for decades under Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Post-Independence

The party has produced six Prime Ministers, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Manmohan Singh, each contributing to India's growth story.
